Hendrick’s Gin Launch Cucumber Exchange in Celebration of World Cucumber Day

In a move that will cause consternation in financial markets worldwide once again, this June Hendrick’s Gin will help the world recognise the real value of the cucumber by transforming the humble green fruit into exchangeable monetary units – the bearers to retrieve a Hendrick’s and Tonic in celebration of World Cucumber Day on June 14th.

The annual celebration of World Cucumber Day sees the unusual gin maker hero the remarkable fruit by adding delightful peculiarity to everyday universal things to inspire people to cultivate and embrace their unusual side.

In 2018, the coveted gin maker has partnered with hundreds of bars across the England and Wales to facilitate these unorthodox transactions. Look out for Cucumber Exchange booths popping up in Covent Garden Piazza on Thursday 14th June and then again in Manchester’s Spinningfields on Saturday 16th June, providing Cucumber Currency for patrons to bring to their local participating bars, where the cucumber will be accepted as payment – or ‘bar tender’ – in exchange for a refreshing Hendrick’s and Tonic on these dates.

For those more technologically minded, the exchange will also take a digital form through the Hendrick’s Gin UK Facebook page, where Cucumber Currency can be secured via the Messenger app and exchanged in participating bars across this green and pleasant land from Thursday 14th June until Wednesday 20th June inclusive.

“Having been the first to convert the beloved cucumber into currency, this year we’re once again inviting curious-minded individuals to exchange this unconventional green fruit for the most peculiar libation, a Hendrick’s & Tonic,” said Sasha Filimonov, Hendrick’s Brand Ambassador.

“There is simply no better way to cap off a Hendrick’s Gin and Tonic than with a little green garnish cut from the same fruit that gives the gin its delightfully unusual flavour. Whether it’s a classic slice, peculiar spears, a bold wedge or an unusual tongue, the cucumber gives ample opportunity for expressive experimentation in shape and size that is sure to please the eye as well as the palate. We welcome those with a shared disposition to join us in the wondrous possibilities World Cucumber Day has to offer.”

The Cucumber Exchange will run from 1200hrs to 2100hrs on the below dates and locations: June 14th in London’s Covent Garden and Waitrose Canary Wharf
 June 16th in Manchester’s Spinningfields

Hendrick’s Gin has always held the cucumber in the highest regard. The spirit’s unusual distillation process includes an infusion of rose and cucumber, which yields an extraordinarily smooth gin that is a rare union of lightness and complexity.
